The film marks Goldie Hawn's return to the big screen, fifteen years after she starred in The Banger Sisters (2002).
The film's studio originally didn't want Goldie Hawn for the film. However, co-star/producer Amy Schumer insisted and even threatened to leave the project if Hawn wasn't cast.
Amy Schumer was hospitalized with Chronic Bronchitis during filming which shut down production for a week.
During breaks in filming, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes performed several "pop-up" shows in Honolulu, with all proceeds going to charity. The shows were announced in the morning and would sell out in a matter of hours.
Katie Dippold, the screenwriter of this film, has a small role as a shopper at the beginning of the movie.
"Emily Middleton: Let's go out tonight. Hair, makeup, boobs... we're going out! Linda Middleton: Emily, I am not going out at night. Emily Middleton: Everything shouldn't be so scary. Ruth: Oh, it damn well should. One in four tourists are kidnapped. Emily Middleton: Not true. Ruth: One, two, three... Somebody's missing."
"Emily Middleton: Oh, not you. It was me. Can you kind of beat it? Cause you're a distraction."
