All of the music featured in the film comes from Seattle-based artists, including The Presidents of the United States of America's re-working of their song "Supermodel," called "Supersonics," which features play-by-play audio from Kevin Calabro in the background.
In April 2011, at a book signing for Howard Schultz's new book "Onward," a disgruntled Sonics fan managed to get to the front of the line and berated Schultz for his role in the Sonics' departure. Although not connected to the man who created the incident, "Sonicsgate" producer Adam Brown was filming the incident at the time, and at the behest of Schultz, was asked to leave.
Won a Webby Award for Best Sports Film. Accepting on behalf of the film, former Sonics legend Gary Payton gave the speech, saying simply, "Bring back the Seattle Supersonics!" This was met with raucous applause from the New York City audience.
At the end of the special thanks section, the filmmakers added "For nothing, Howard," referencing former owner Howard Schultz and his controversial decision to sell the team to Clay Bennett.
"Sherman Alexie - Writer: [about what it will take to bring the NBA back] The thing is, if we get a team, it's going to be somebody else's team. It's not going to be a new franchise. So, I read, I keep up, I know who's in trouble. So we're going to get New Orleans, Milwaukee, Indiana, Memphis, Sacramento. To get a team, I'm going to have to break the hearts of people just like me, who will then have to go in front of cameras and talk about their pain like this. And that's the only way we're ever going to get a team."
"Howard Schultz: Five years ago, when I sat here and was in a position to buy the team, I remember saying that I view this as my responsibility as part of the public trust."
