IMDbDirector Jack Hill asked that his name be removed from the credits for two reasons: (1) the special effects, around which much of the script had been written, ended up being much less impressive than producer Roger Corman had promised, and (2) Hill had written a role for his friend Sid Haig but Corman refused to hire him at the last minute.
Director Jack Hill claims that Dino De Laurentiis, who was filming Dune (1984) in the same studio, stole the movie's lighting equipment for his own production.
Most of the music was taken from James Horner's score for Battle Beyond the Stars (1980).
The name of the film was decided on when Roger Corman took a list of potential titles to a local high school and polled the students on which they preferred.
After the film was finished, producer Roger Corman had it recut and removed director Jack Hill's name from it. The credited director, Brian Stuart, is actually the first names of Corman's two sons.
