The film includes multiple slasher movie references, including Friday the 13th (the camp location), Hellraiser (the pins in the makeup head, "nailed it!"), Carrie (the bucket of "blood"), and Halloween (large chef's knife).
Director Jerome Sable and cowriter Eli Batalion have said that they used the same title font and the same shade of red from Assault on Precint 13 (1976) for the title of Stage Fright to pay homage to their favourite director, John Carpenter.
The cast did all of their singing live.
The kid wearing the tan colored apron and tie wields a handsaw, very noticeably paying homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface. The camp obviously pays homage to Friday the 13th. In the costume department of the theatre production, a head sculpture is used as a pincushion very clearly paying tribute to Hellraiser
Minnie Driver did her own stunts.

Liz Silver, Sheila Kerry, Bethany: [singing] We don't distinguish here at Center Stage. Entire Camp: [singing/dancing] We're all gay, we're gay in all kinds of ways!
