The opening lines of the film are taken directly from the original Starship Troopers novel.
The film is much darker in tone than the original film, this is because the producers wanted a film that felt closer to the darker tone of the original novel than the satiric feel of the movie.
While he serves as producer and actively took part in the films press tour, Casper Van Dien does not perform the voice of Johnny Rico. It is the first time Casper has not performedas Rico in a full length motion picture.
