Story

The final film in a saga of films by Makoto Shinkai that also contains The Garden of Words (2013), Your Name. (2016), and Weathering with You (2019). The film is rumored to explain more of the events of those movies and may have cameos by the main characters of those films as well.

Makoto Shinkai cites the short story "Super-Frog Saves Tokyo" and the novel "Kafka on the Shore" both by Haruki Murakami, as well the anime film Kiki's Delivery Service (1989) as a huge main inspiration for this film.
