TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Téa Leoni's film debut. The same with Yvette Freeman.

A seduction scene between Ellen Barkin and Lorraine Bracco was excised after poor reactions in test screenings.

The Devil (played by Bruce Payne) makes a total of six appearances in this movie. Aside from his two speaking roles (when Steve is sent back to earth, and when he visits Amanda at 3:00 in the morning), he also makes four sneak appearances: Once as a patron at the City Grille's bar when Amanda meets Walter for lunch, once as a piano player at Sheila's party, once as a piano player (in drag) at the lesbian club, and finally as a televangelist on TV when Margo hides the murder weapon in Amanda's couch. In a directors cut, he makes another speaking role in an elevator scene.

This film was indirectly referenced in numerous episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988). In the original television spots for the film, Jimmy Smits name was announced in an unusual way: "Ellen Barkin. Switch. Jimmy Smits. Starts Friday." The writers of MST3K found it amusing that Smits' name was announced after the title and not announced as "also starring Jimmy Smits" or "with Jimmy Smits", only as "Jimmy Smits". In various episodes, a character would say "Jimmy Smits" whenever the word "switch" was uttered or sometimes for seemingly no reason at all.

JoBeth Williams was up for a different part in this film but when she read the script, she said the only part she would consider playing was Margo and she got that part instead.

Popular Dialogues

"Fur Protestor: Do you know how many poor animals they had to kill to make that coat? Margo Brofman: Know how many rich animals I had to fuck to get this coat?"

"Steve Brooks: I don't believe it. I'm sitting with three beautiful woman who said they hated me. I got to be dreaming. Margo Brofman: We still hate you. Felicia: We decided you should be punished for the way you treat woman. Liz: Oh, yeah, men like you just have to be stopped. Steve Brooks: And how are you going to stop me? Margo Brofman: We're going to kill you. Steve Brooks: Oh, what a way to die."
