Unlike his earlier ventures which were mainly remakes, this is Mohan Raja's first original script.
Director Mohan Raja is elder brother of Jayam Ravi'.
Devi Sri Prasad and Yuvan Shankar Raja were first reported to be the music composers of Thani Oruvan but Hiphop Tamizha Adhi was finalized as the music director in December 2014.
Initially, Yuvan Shankar Raja was approached to compose the soundtrack but he refused to work stating that there won't be more scope for his music in this script.
The film began without a title and was referred to by the tentative title, Thani Oruvan, which was confirmed as the film's official title in June 2014.
