Filmed in the summer of 1955 but not released until 1957, in order to cash in on the sudden fame of Jayne Mansfield.
Producer Louis W. Kellman cast the relatively unknown Jayne Mansfield as Gladden after seeing the normally jaded and unflappable film crew's "overheated" reaction to her on the set of Pete Kelly's Blues (1955).
Producer Louis W. Kellman had difficulty finding a buyer for the film. Finally, Columbia Pictures chief Harry Cohn said that he would do Kellman "a favor" and "take it off his hands" if the film's director, Paul Wendkos, was part of the deal.
At the beginning of the film, Dan Duryea is shown leaving a theater where Utopia (1950) (under its 1954 American release title "Utopia") starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy is displayed on the marquee.
The boat Queenie is a 1929 38-foot Elco cruiser which is still in existence in Hyde Park, NY, attached to the Manotick Classic Boat Club.
"Della: What's your name? Nat Harbin: Nathaniel... Say, what is this? What do you want? Della: Basically - basically, I'm out to find myself a man. Wait for me outside. Nat Harbin: Are you kidding? Della: No. No, Nathaniel, I'm not kidding. Nat Harbin: Well, that's tough on you. Sorry, no sale. Della: [slaps Nat] Just to let you know, I'm - not selling anything."
"Nat Harbin: Relax. Cool yourself."
