The script was priced at seven million pounds (the amount it would have cost to make it). However, the film had a budget of only two and a half million pounds. This led to many scenes and characters being cut during filming, in an attempt to cut costs.
Dumfries and Galloway's long-abandoned Caerlaverock Castle, with its moat, twin-towered gatehouse, and imposing battlements, is the setting of the wedding in the film. CGI was used to create a messy outlook of the castle, which is then cleaned up again via CGI.
The film takes place on the Isle of Hegg (Eigg), Scotland UK. David Tennant is actually Scottish, but plays an Englishman. Alice Eve is is actually from the UK, but plays an American.
David Tennant and Kelly Macdonald both appear in Harry Potter films: Tennant as Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) and Macdonald as Helena Ravenclaw aka the Grey Lady in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011).
David Tennant's birth name is John McDonald, his surname being a variation of co-star Kelly Macdonald's surname.
