In the film commentary on the 2014 DVD release, director Hoite C. Caston says the original title for The Dirt Bike Kid was 'Crazy Wheels.'

Hoite C. Caston says on his 2014 director's commentary that The Dirt Bike Kid was made on a budget of $800,000 and sold 100,000 VHS copies.

Michael Richards, now famous for his Seinfeld role as Kramer, was considered for the role of Big Slime in this film.

In the DVD director commentary, Hoite C. Caston says Julie Corman based the original story on Jack and the Beanstalk. Instead of magic beans, The Dirt Bike Kid is the tale of a magic bike.

The building that was used for Mike's Doghouse was a Pollo Fiesta restaurant in June 2009.
