Janice de Belen is the only one to have starred in the original Pridyider segment in Shake, Rattle & Roll (1984) and in this movie. In the original, she plays the lead, and she plays the villainous character in the remake. Joel Torre also starred in the original Shake, Rattle & Roll but appears in another segment.
Production Designer Ericson Navarro built two versions of the titular "Fridge." The first version was a semi-functional one containing all the necessary moving parts and shelves, while the other model could be disassembled, and had a hollow back plate where the actors could be positioned (as the severed heads) and/or literally pulled into the refrigerator by the stunt-rig personnel.
The film had three sold-out screenings at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan), Korea in 2013. There was an audience Q & A with Ilarde after the last screening. Ilarde had also attended the festival to participate in that year's edition of the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF) with his unproduced project Tusok: The Avenger.
The film is the seventh feature film collaboration between Ilarde and Practical Effects Coordinator Roland "Apeng" Salem. Salem, a veteran of several international action films shot in the Philippines, has done all the blood, squib and explosion effects in Ilarde's films. He also made the actor/camera rig which actress Shaina Magdayao rides on (while falling into a pool) in Villa Estrella (2009), the water spouting aquarium in Shake Rattle and Roll 2k5 (2005) that completely floods a room, and also the actor/stunt rigs that have the titular refrigerator completely swallow the characters in Pridyider (2012).
Author/Programmer Grady Hendrix (Horrorstor, Satan Loves You, etc) recommended the film to his peers at Subway Cinema who programmed the film at the New York Asian Film Festival in 2013. The film had two screenings, including a midnight slot which also screened Roy Ward Baker's Asylum (1972), whose "Frozen Fear" episode was a big influence on Ilarde while making The Fridge.
