First credited role for Stockard Channing.
This movie was broadcast by ABC and televised on Election Night 1973. In New York City, this movie was broadcast on ABC affiliate channel 7. When Miriam was planning to "do away" with one of her rivals, this movie was temporarily interrupted for election results. Those New York City viewers who could also pick up ABC affiliate channel 8 from New Haven, Connecticut, where there was no interruption, could "fast-forward" and see Miriam pushing that rival out of an airplane. As the movie resumed in its entirety on channel 7, viewers could relive the entire "airplane" scene, if they chose to.
Somewhat unusually, there was only one actor or actress billed as "starring", Stockard Channing, everyone else was billed as "guest starring", "co-starring", or "also starring".
Stockard Channing put cotton balls in the sides of her mouth to make her cheeks look chubby in her pre-makeover scenes.
Ralph Varone (Edward Asner) refers to Miriam Knight's (Stockard Channing's) case as "Case #187". Section 187 of the Police penal code describes the crime of murder.
"Tilson: Mr. Meyers, can you tell us the basic theme of Oedipus? Moose Myers: Uh... yeah. That's the guy who had something wrong with his eyes? Yeah. He had a problem with his eyes. [laughs] Tilson: Miss Knight, perhaps you can help Mr. Meyers with the theme of the Oedipus legend? Miriam Knight: Easy. A guy can't kiss his mother on the mouth and get away with it. [laughs]"
