The Classic Ford Mustang used in the movie belonged to the Second Assistant Director.
The story takes place around Halloween but the movie was shot in May & June, 2003. Pumpkins were out of season and the Art Department was only able to locate a few actual pumpkins. A majority of the Pumpkins seen in the movie are artificial.
Director Kyle Newman joined the production four days into shooting.
Principal photography was originally scheduled for 22 days, but it was later increased to 26.
The movie premiered on the ABC Family Channel, but had to be heavily edited before the broadcast in order to make it suitable for a television audience. The full version can be seen on the DVD release.
"Rob: In there? Erica: Sure. Why not? Rob: Oh, I don't know. It's a shed in the middle of the graveyard. Erica: I know. What do you say, stud? A little doggystyle with the dead? A little zombie frombie?"
"[Brody leads Scott and Amber to the graveyard for a good scare] Amber: What's the big deal with all this anyway? Brody: The big deal is that you, Karen, and everybody else around here take the legacy of this town for granted. You act like it's just another place on the map. Amber: You're drunk. [Brody comes over and grabs Amber, painfully, by the arm] Brody: [to Amber's face] But it's not just another place on the map. This is the birthplace of the most famous ghost story there ever was. Amber: You're hurting me! Brody: This should be the end-all, be-all of Halloween. And what have we got to show for it? A junior boy storyteller and a hokey haunted hayride. Amber: [to Scott] Scott, could you please get this gorilla off me? [Scott finally steps up] Scott: Hey, let her go, man."
