The scene where Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) reads Plutarch's letter to Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) was originally scripted to be Plutarch (Philip Seymour Hoffman) talking to Katniss in person. Unfortunately, Hoffman died before the scene was filmed.
The cast has said multiple times that the hardest scene to shoot was the sewer scene. It took three weeks to shoot and was physically challenging, and it was very hot on the set since they shot on-location in actual sewers.
The circular apartment complex with the toxic oil trap is an actual location. The Espaces Abraxas is in a suburb of Paris, France. The CGI team digitally removed the many trees that are really in the courtyard, but otherwise made very few alterations to the site.
Philip Seymour Hoffman's final film, released the year after his death.
Many of the Capitol scenes were shot in Paris and Berlin.
"[last lines] Katniss Everdeen: [to her baby] Did you have a nightmare? I have nightmares, too. Someday I'll explain it to you, why they came, why they won't ever go away, but I'll tell you how I survive it. I make a list in my head... of all the good things I've seen someone do. Every little thing I can remember. It's like a game. I do it over and over. Gets a little tedious after all these years, but... there are much worse games to play."
"Peeta Mellark: You love me. Real or not real? Katniss Everdeen: Real."
