The idea for the film came from Tom Hammock and Jacob Forman as they were driving cross-country to Texas to film the movie All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006) which also stars Michael Welch.
Filming took approximately three weeks to film. 18 days were spent filming the desert scenes and just a few days were spent for the indoor attic scenes.
The Wallace Farm main location was a former meth house.
Michael Welch and Booboo Stewart both appeared in the Twilight Saga.
Haley Lu Richardson did the bulk of her own stunts.
