This was the WB Television Network's first TV-movie.
Originally planned as a pilot for a Lone Ranger TV series.
In both the long-running radio serial and the earlier representations of the Lone Ranger character his birth name had always been John Reid whose descendent was Britt Reid who became the Green Hornet. This was because both characters were created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker. They also were responsible for creating Sergeant Preston of the Yukon.
"[last lines] Luke Hartman: Listen, I wanted to thank you. I couldn't have done it without you. Tonto: That's true, you couldn't have. I'm not sure I couldn't have done it without you though. Luke Hartman: Oh, ho, ho. So that's how it's gonna be? Tonto: It sure is. You can ride with me though, Ranger. Luke Hartman: We still got more to do. You can ride with me, Kemosabe. Tonto: Oh yeah? Luke Hartman: Yeah. [tugging Silver's reigns] Luke Hartman: Ya!"
