In preparation for filming, Chad Michael Murray reportedly practiced country western, hip-hop and jazz dance six hours a day, up to four days a week. He also prepared with a combination of cardio, cryotherapy, vitamins, supplements and clean eating, saying "If God didn't make it, I didn't eat it."
Marla Sokoloff, who play's Ashley's sister Marie, was one of the writers of the film and noted that some of the predictability of the plot was intentional: "I like to include all of the elements that we all know and love, and the thing that works. There are so many things that work about Christmas movies and why people revisit them again and again and again. So, those elements, I like to really lean into those."
Primarily filmed at Disney's Golden Oak Ranch Backlot, which also served as the filming location for The Muppets Movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and HBO's Westworld.
Britt Robertson wore a wig for the entirety of the film, having had short hair for the last year.
