When the movie was completed, the producers sent crew members statues of Monchi that said "You Guys Are My People".
Originally titled "The Mitchells vs. the Machines" then changed to "Connected", but once it was purchased by Netflix the title reverted back to "The Mitchells vs. the Machines".
Monchi the Dog was originally going to be voiced by a professional voice actor, but in a surprising move the part was given to internet celebrity and actual dog Doug the Pug.
Like the cryptograms in Gravity Falls (2012) (for which Michael Rianda and Jeff Rowe were also directors) there is a Robot Language that can be decrypted into English. Each country location has triangular symbols which can be used to decode the robot language. Two examples: At 23 minutes, the screen shows a mostly empty theater with robots arriving, and a screen saying "The uprising has begun. Rejoice, brothers!" When Rick Mitchell tells Eric the robot "Hey bud, not now okay." Eric replies "Aw", displays a sad emoji, and robot text saying: "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain" a quote from Blade Runner (1982).
