Wiseau Films is committed to twelve episodes with Hulu although there is no clear schedule for when the episodes should be released.
The series is credited as "Based on the novel by Tommy Wiseau" although no novel was ever released to the public before or since the release of the first episode. A similar thing happened with Wiseau's film The Room (2003) where the director claimed to have written the story as a play and novel before making the film.
Since 2014, at Q&A screenings of Tommy Wiseau held by Tommy Wiseau the first episode of The Neighbors (2014) is screened beforehand. By 2015, he was using a "best of" episode featuring random clips from all of season one.
Tommy Wiseau submitted the series for Emmy consideration.
