The O'Connell brothers improvised much of their scenes at the party, including the climbing on the swings (which they were not intended to do).
When 'Dizzy/Gil' goes to the County Jail, and is talking to Luther, you can see a black flag symbol on the wall behind him. The Warden is played by former black flag front man, Henry Rollins.
During his cameo, Vanilla Ice is wearing an Insane Clown Posse T-shirt and a promotional badge for his 1998 nu-metal album "Hard To Swallow".
Students at W. Charles Akins High School were not allowed to be extras in the film despite the fact that the film was partially shot there. This was because extras were required to be at least 18 years old, and at the time Akins' only had 9th and 10th grade students. However, several teachers and staff of Akins High School got to be extras.
The theatrical version features a Patton (1970) spoof, while the director's cut features a Braveheart (1995) spoof which the director felt would better lead into the payoff at the end.
"Luther: High school is a lot like prison: Bad food, high fences; the sex you want, you ain't gettin', the sex you gettin', you don't want. I've seen terrible things. Dizzy: Yesterday, an eighty-year-old librarian broke my penis. Luther: You win."
"Coach: You stole my horse, maggot! Do you know what the penalty is in this state for stealing another man's horse? Dizzy/Gil: Death? Coach: This isn't Iraq, son."
