STORY

Story
This once controversial British movie that was filmed in ‘62 but released in ‘65 involves the fiancé of a depressed American heiress searching for her whereabouts amongst the Chelsea “beatnik” scene. Answers are hard to come by from the nihilistic hedonist youth that know her - but they provide mysterious hints to wild parties, sex, death and necrophilia.

Filmed in 1962, not released in the UK because of censorship problems (due to its necrophilia theme) until 1965 and in the US until 1966.

Director Guy Hamilton, executive producer Jack Hawkins, and producers Peter O'Toole and Anthony Perry had their names removed from the credits in protest at the censorship of the film.

Eddie Albert receives a 'Guest Star' credit.

Ahead of its time with the character Hector, who is openly gay. Also, there are two women holding each other, obviously gay also. These characters are basically part of the gang, or friends of them, and aren't judged negatively for their lifestyle, which is the same as the straight characters.

Eddie Albert and Katherine Woodville would become in-laws in 1979 when Katherine married Eddie's son, Edward Albert.
