Many of the characters and plot elements were recycled from two Cecil B. DeMille westerns, "The Plainsman" and "Union Pacific," though it is not a remake of either film. However, Universal did officially remake the former three years later.
This was produced by Universal's television arm, Revue, intending it as a TV-movie. Instead, the studio gave it a perfunctory theatrical release, leaving at least one commercial break intact. Unfortunately, it was composed for 1.37, and when shown in theatres at 1.85, a great many shots were uncomfortably cropped.
