TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Terrence Malick, a long time resident of Austin, originally conceived the idea for the film.

Robert Redford spent his summers in Austin as a child. He learned to swim in the natural springs which feature so prominently in the film (Barton Springs).

Director Laura Dunn was 9 months pregnant at the time of her interview with Robert Redford. The interview took place on her due date. She gave birth the next day to a son (to whom the film is dedicated).

Popular Dialogues

"Gary Bradley: Nature in your life, very quickly becomes God. A God who gives great abundance at times... and takes everything away at times. [on growing up on a farm]"

"Robert Redford: We're trying to get at something deeper here... which is, that force, bigger than all of us, here longer than all of us that designed something that is still mysterious to us, that we're trying to figure out and put order to... Well, that's the spirit of something, and it's best reflected in natural places."
