The live action scenes were filmed in Montreal in 2000, under the working title "The Forgotten Attic."
This is the first title to be released in theaters and direct-to-video. Another title, DreamWorks Trolls 2: World Tour (2020), which was released 11 years later, takes a similar approach on the releasing device, but with Direct-to-Digital instead.
The animation is produced from September 2007 to January 2008.
For this and The Princess and the Pea (2002), Feature Films for Families has putted up the "Producers Guarantee" for theatergoers in its limited theatrical release period. Through it, they will enjoy the film with the understandings of its values that only FFfF can produce & distribute, usually occurred on home video. If they doesn't understand the values, they will get a free DVD through FFfF website.
This is the first, and as of now, only title from Feature Films for Families to nationally distributed on home video by the another distributor.
