Neil Crone, who voices Gordon in this spin-off, had previously voiced the same representation of the character from the 2000 film Thomas & the Magic Railroad, along with Diesel 10 and Splatter.
The engines having different eye colors possibly came from the Railway Series book, Very Old Engines, in an unused illustration where Neil The Sodor & Mainland Railway Box Tank Engine had blue eyes, like Thomas does in this show.
