IMDbWhen the iceberg strikes, a display screen shows the Hull Integrity Analysis, with a warning that the 'Ismay-Rosejack threshold' has been exceeded. It's a reference to J. Bruce Ismay, chairman of the White Star Line, which operated the original Titanic, and to the characters Rose and Jack from Titanic (1997).
This is not a sequel to Titanic (1997).
In April 2012, Australian tycoon Clive Palmer announced plans to construct a modern-day replica of the Titanic to sail the same route of the original. The ship's launch date was set for 2016, then 2018, then 2022. Blue Star Lines stated in a press release dated September 27, 2018 that construction would resume, but the company's website hasn't been updated since then.
The RMS Queen Mary was used as a stand-in during the departure scenes and for some interior shots. The ship had previously stood in for the SS Poseidon in The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and the original RMS Titanic in S.O.S. Titanic (1979).
The film takes place in April 2012.

"Amy Maine: Hayden, you're gonna freeze to death. Hayden Walsh: I'm gonna drown before that. Amy Maine: Okay, then we're gonna share. We're gonna share the air tank. We can take turns breathing. Hayden Walsh: [shakes head] No good. Amy Maine: Why? Hayden Walsh: I'm gonna freeze to death anyway."
