Fifteen years after the events of the feature film, Kyle Craig is assigned to go undercover in an elite squad of the LAPD as Detective Frank Rourke’s trainee to spy on him and report on his off-book methods. CBS stated that all 13 commissioned episodes had already been filmed before Bill Paxton's death on February 25, 2017.
Originally the pilot script had the corrupt older cop as Jake Hoyt, the character Ethan Hawke played in the movie. The show moved away from that version when Hawke declined to be involved.
Bill Paxton, the lead actor (Detective Frank Rourke) died Saturday, February 25th, during the airing of the season.
The series has been cancelled due to the death of Bill Paxton in February 2017.
In this series, both Tom Berenger, Nick Chinlund and Raymond J. Barry, reprised their roles from the 2001 film Training Day.
