Outstanding Makeup for a Miniseries or a Special | 1997 | Rick
In the "He Who Kills" segment, one of the museum security guards is reading a "Dark Shadows" comic book, and enthuses about how he used to rush home from school to watch the TV series. Dan Curtis created the series Dark Shadows (1966).
In one scene, Lysette Anthony said she paid a subtle homage to Karen Black, star of the original film, when she picks up a telephone receiver and crosses her eyes for a moment. She pointed it out to Dan Curtis later during looping and he thought it was hilarious.
The "Bobby" segment is recycled from Dan Curtis's previous anthology, Dead of Night (1977).
Lysette Anthony said that Dan Curtis shouts and swears a lot while directing and was surprised to learn people are terrified of him as a result. He also found that funny. Yet it never bothered her and she was very fond of him.
Lysette Anthony had previously starred as Angelique on the Dark Shadows (1966) revival series, Dark Shadows (1991) - both of which were created by Dan Curtis. She told Femme Fatales magazine she hadn't spoken to Curtis in six years when he called and said he wanted her for this. The network wanted a bigger name star but Curtis fought for Anthony because he knew she had the range.
