The scenes of Truman's election night were filmed exactly where Harry Truman spent his election night. Truman went to bed on election night with reports predicting his defeat by Dewey at the Elm's Hotel Resort and Spa in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, USA.

A TV movie for the HBO network.

The cast includes two actors who portrayed J. Edgar Hoover in other films. Richard Dysart played Hoover in Panther (1995) while Pat Hingle played him in Citizen Cohn (1992).

Both Gary Sinese and Zeljko Ivanek would play the same person, Astronaut Ken Mattingly, in two Apollo era movies; Sinese in Apollo 13, and Ivanek in an episode of the mini-series From The Earth To The Moon.

Pat Hingle and Daniel von Bargen previously appeared in Citizen Cohn (1992), also directed by Frank Pierson.
