In the scene where a frozen Curly Howard is thawed over an open fire, Moe Howard and Larry Fine couldn't turn the crank and the straps holding Curly slipped off. "He was pretty well seared," an observer recalled. "Curly was hollering his head off."
The title of this short is a takeoff on Valiant Is the Word for Carrie (1936).
This short contains the classic The Three Stooges rendition of "Swinging the Alphabet", originally composed by Septimus Winner, under the title "The Spelling Bee". Charley Chase's family maid taught it to his children, and Charley brought it to the attention of the Stooges.
If you look closely you can see one male student among the all-female student body just before the sing-along.
When The Three Stooges are provoking the true professors at the gas station with their aggressive "super service," Moe Howard responds to their protests saying, "Take it easy, Field Marshal!" a reference to the notorious Field Marshal Hermann Göring.
"Curly: [to cute coed] I'll meet you in the gymnasium after class. I'll be standing next to the dumbbells. You'll know me, I'll be wearing a hat."
"Miss Katsby: Oh, you'll just love it. Mildew has a lovely student body. Curly: Yours wouldn't be so bad either if you took off about twenty pounds!"
