TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

The film was dedicated to actor Tony Beckley who played the villain in the original When a Stranger Calls (1979).

Carol Kane, Charles Durning, and Cheryl Wilson are the only actors to reprise their roles from the previous film.

The schoolgirl outfit that Julia is wearing in the opening scene is based on the outfit that Janett Christman was wearing at the time of her death, which was a white blouse and a button-up skirt. She was babysitting two kids the night she was murdered, and her case served as an inspiration for "The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs" urban legend.

Jill Schoelen's favorite horror film is the original When A Stranger Calls (1979), and she jumped at the chance to audition for the sequel. She also really wanted to work with Carol Kane, someone she admired.

Jill Schoelen tried to change one of Julia's lines in the opening scene, where she asks the stranger who she wants her to call. The line originally read: "Whom do you want to call?" Schoelen wanted to change it to who instead of whom, as she believed that Julia, being a young school student, would make such a mistake. Walton initially opposed, as Julia is dressed like a private school student and would speak more formally, but ultimately relented. Schoelen ended up saying the line as it was written in the script anyway.

Popular Dialogues

"William Landis: I am not the reflection of anything. I am not an illusion. I am the truth. I'm invisible. Unknowable. You people are the real illusionists. You people are the real illusionists!"

"Jill: [while teaching a self-defense class] Situations do arise where there is no-one around to help you and you have to defend yourself by whatever means necessary. You cannot say that you'd don't believe in violence unless you also say you don't believe in living."
