Executive producer Sarah Michelle Gellar was highly protective of her younger costars in this series. A staff member was reportedly fired due to inappropriate behavior during production. As described by herself in an interview, her work was "to set up an infrastructure for the younger cast. Something that I know for sure that I didn't have on any of my jobs."Note:the "inappropriate behavior"in question is that the staff member was offering one of the teenage actors unsolicited back rubs.
Sarah Michelle Gellar initially turned down the script. "I was like, 'I'm not reading it. Werewolves? No, thank you. Been there, done that."
Sarah Michelle Gellar's presence in this production as star and executive producer is symbolic: Jeff Davis has repeatedly credited Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) as one of his strongest influences on Teen Wolf (2011).
