TRIVIA

Trivia

The movie took three years to make owing to recurring funding problems and was finally finished with director Nick Cassavetes' winnings at a casino.

In a 2015 interview with The Wrap, director Nick Cassavetes supported the idea of people having incestuous relationships and compared it to being gay. He said, "I have no experience with incest. We had heard a few stories where brothers and sisters were completely, absolutely in love with one another. You know what? This whole movie is about judgment, and lack of it, and doing what you want. Who gives a shit if people judge you? I'm not saying this is an absolute, but in a way, if you're not having kids, who gives a damn? Love who you want. Isn't that what we say? Gay marriage -- love who you want? If it's your brother or sister it's super-weird, but if you look at it, you're not hurting anybody except every single person who freaks out because you're in love with one another." He said he decided to add the element of incest to the story because he felt something had to happen to the main character that was "traumatic and beautiful and made her a pariah." He added, "She's a wipeout of a mess. But I hope people root for this character, damaged or not."

Nick Caseavettes said he wanted to make this film because he wanted to write a story about "how women think today." He added, "it didn't matter what type of women it would be. I have been dissatisfied with how women are portrayed in film these days. That is because it didn't feel 100% authentic to me as an audience. That was the initial genesis for the idea and the reason for wanting to portray the real image of the woman."

Ellen Humphreys's debut.
