If you’re a big fan of RPG titles, chances are you’ve come across Cyberpunk 2077 or even played it yourself. The game is widely recommended and has a massive following, especially since the developers, CD Projekt Red, have another immensely popular title under their belt: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. In Cyberpunk 2077, you are thrown into a dystopian future where mega-corporations control almost every aspect of life, and technology is as essential as water.

The formula is somewhat similar to GTA, featuring an open world set in a futuristic American city. You complete missions, explore the world, and fight enemies, all while trying to heal your fragmenting mind from a restricted AI chip that has gone rogue. In this article, I’ll share the minimum and recommended PC specifications to play this game. I’ll also provide a brief outlook on the story, the latest news, and what you can expect. The official system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 make one thing pretty clear: this is a demanding game. Even at minimum settings, you need at least 12GB of RAM and a GPU with 6GB of VRAM, like the GTX 1060. If you are running an older card with 4GB VRAM or even a more modern 4GB GPU like the RTX 2050/RTX 3050, expect significant throttling and performance issues.

The SSD is also mandatory, so installing this on an HDD will cause significant stutter and texture pop-in. For the best experience, you’ll want a modern 8-core processor like the Ryzen 7 7800X3D/12th Gen Core i7 to handle the dense crowds and complex AI of Night City without frame drops. 

If your rig meets the minimum system requirements, you can expect a playable 30-45 fps at 1080p. The recommended specifications will ensure a stable 60fps event at high settings on 1080p.

Quite surprisingly, Cyberpunk 2077 also has official support for macOS, which is pretty rare for major AAA titles. To run it, you’ll need at least an M1 processor and 16GB of RAM running macOS 15.5 or later. However, for a smoother experience that actually does the visuals justice, the developers recommend the more powerful M3 Pro chip paired with 18GB of unified memory. Just note that the storage requirement bumps up slightly to 92GB, so make sure your Mac has plenty of free space.

Cyberpunk 2077: Story

In Cyberpunk 2077, you step into the shoes of V, a mercenary trying to make a name for themself in the futuristic Night City. The main plot kicks into gear after a heist goes badly wrong, leaving V with a prototype biochip stuck in their head. This chip contains the consciousness of Johnny Silverhand, a rockstar and anti-corporate rebel played by Keanu Reeves, whose involvement played a massive role in the game’s mainstream popularity.

The catch is that the chip is slowly killing V and overwriting their mind with Johnny’s personality. Your main goal is simply to find a way to remove it and survive. Much like CD Projekt Red’s previous title, The Witcher 3, the narrative is heavily driven by player choice. The decisions you make during missions and conversations will significantly alter how the story plays out, leading to multiple different endings depending on who you trust and how you choose to handle the conflicts along the way.

There’s also a major DLC called Phantom Liberty if you purchase the Ultimate version, which adds a new spy-thriller storyline set in a district called Dogtown. In this DLC, V gets entangled in a high-stakes mission to save the President of the New United States, working alongside a sleeper agent played by Idris Elba. It introduces a new skill tree, more weapons, and even a new ending for the main game, making it an excellent addition if you enjoy the base experience.

Cyberpunk 2077: price and should you buy it?

The base game currently retails on Steam for Rs 2,999, while the Ultimate Edition (which includes the Phantom Liberty expansion) is listed at Rs 4,138. Since the game is now almost six years old, it regularly sees price drops of around 50 percent during major sales like Black Friday, Summer, and Winter events on platforms like Steam, Epic Games, and GOG.

The best time to pick it up is definitely during these sales. For instance, during the Steam Black Friday Sale in 2025, the Ultimate Edition was available for around Rs 2,000, while the base game dropped to just Rs 1,099. At those sale prices, the game is absolutely worth it if you enjoy RPGs, offering stellar value with a massive amount of high-quality content.

Cyberpunk 2077: latest news, Cyberpunk 2 and more

The game received its last major update in September 2025, which introduced improved vehicle handling mechanics, bug fixes, and quality-of-life enhancements. However, the bigger news is that CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2, formerly codenamed Project Orion, has entered pre-production. The studio has assembled a team of veterans who worked on both Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty expansion to lead the project.​

Pre-production involves establishing development teams and creating early roadmaps, with CD Projekt Red’s newly opened Boston Studio responsible for the project. Given that pre-production typically spans years for a project of this scale, don’t expect any concrete release timeline or launch announcement anytime soon. Realistically, we are probably looking at 2030 or even 2031 before the sequel arrives. For now, the focus remains on letting the team build the foundation for what comes next.

CD Projekt Red is also working on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2, the anime adaptation it is developing with Netflix for 2026. The first season was a successful launch overall, and the new season appears to be shaping up to be just as strong. So, between supporting Cyberpunk 2077, working on the anime sequel, and getting Cyberpunk 2 into pre-production, the studio definitely has its hands full at the moment
