Our take on Google s latest flagship - the Pixel 7 Pro.
Oct 12 2022 By Prateek PandeyThe Google Pixel 7 Pro starts at Rs 84,999 in India and for the price, the handset is irrefutably expensive. And, while the smartphone does come across as a sound deal, there is more than meets the eye with Google`s latest flagship. For one, I can`t get behind the phone`s ‘fast-charging` speeds - 23W is simply inexcusable at this price point. And, while the device is rapid and could keep up with my day-to-day, the phone heats up quite a bit too. Lest I forget, the handset isn`t the fastest phone in the segment either and you`ll get more bang for your buck by opting for a Dimensity 9000 or Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-backed device. Be that as it may, the Pixel 7 Pro is a looker and the device will attract eyeballs left, right and centre. It also helps that the phone comes layered with Corning`s Gorilla Glass Victus and is IP68-rated as well. The smartphone`s screen is a treat to look at too and the unit`s triple camera setup will not leave you wanting for more either. The icing on the cake is that the phone will get five years of security updates too. All said and done, the Pixel 7 Pro is not a run-of-the-mill Android flagship and instead of banking on its specs, the handset hopes to deliver an unmatched end-user experience. And, while there is plenty of room for improvement, there`s no denying that the Pixel 7 Pro is a dependable flagship that gets most right.
Read Full ReviewCamera: 1.1 Main rear camera takes super sharp clean images! I love the color accuracy in photos compared to other flagships that saturates too much. ( e.g Samsung ) 1.2 Night shots with main camera came out very sharp and again more accurate colors. It even beats my Canon 200d ii DSLR in auto mode when it comes to night photos with main censor. Night mode takes about 3 secs and images appear more accurate in colors which I really prefer compared to other phones which artificially enhance the lighting, saturation etc. My friend's Vivo X80 pro took similar or slightly better images in low light btw. 1.3 Telephoto lens: While 7 pro definitely takes cleaner shots in 5x, I think better than Apple, But at 10x or more in low light images will look smoother and less sharper. Could not test in day light which should be better I guess. Though Samsung S22 ultra might be better in zoom department I think. -1.1 But Color accuracy in artificial or even low light drops heavily with telephoto lens, more like everything is washed off. I didn't like that quality, There is room for improvement in telephoto low light processing. -1.2 While main censor takes sharp images, I found artificial blur to be useless specially objects which were near the focus, In flower nearby leaves were artificially blurry for example. This looks very odd. -1.3 A big CON in this phone is Front selfie camera, I am actually disappointed in artificial light photos taken by fixed focus front camera. Display: 2.1 Screen looks amazing with really good colors, very smooth UI, and being near bezel less really improves the looks of this phone. 2.2 Curve on screen is good and has reduced than 6 pro, I hate curved screens and this was only reason I avoided 6 pro last year. I have used S7 edge for 4 years so I know the pain, Good news is 7 pro does not have sharp curve. Its better than Vivo's X80 pro for example. Also bezels cover most of the curve, so overall I am happy with slight curve. -2.1 Display is just tiny bit bigger for my taste, 6.5inch would have been great. I have oneplus 7 so pixel feels just slightly bigger but its alright. Rest of the things: 3.1 I don't game so no idea about gaming performance but overall UI is super fluid and smooth. -3.1 Camera however sometimes stucks optimizing images post capturing it. And You can feel heat around camera module as well while doing photography. 4.1 Buttons on this phone are really good and easily reachable, glad Google placed them at right spot. Everything else is all good. -4.1 Speaker's quality takes a hit, It sounds like metallic grill sound is getting mixed with audio, which results in average or not satisfactory sound. -5.1 Battery charging speed is 23W max which is on lower side on today's flagships. And its a single cell so there is huge room for improvement in charging speed department. -6.1 I wish a charger was supplied. Why I didn't choose other brands: I don't like Samsung due to both my S7 edge and parent's M21 are running very slow now. And I don't really prefer color quality of Samsung's flagship phone's camera. As for Apple I don't like to touch small space with cameras to interact with dynamic island plus you will need 2 hands to do that. And always ON display is half baked solution as you don't see the abstract info you need at a glance rather you see whole screen lighting up. And without USB-C it will be slow transfer of photos from phone, also I will need different charging cable for it. Charger for Pixel 7 Pro: I am using Belkin 65w dual USB-C charger which can charge my tablet, laptop etc with fast charging with USB PD - PPS. Don't go with non trusted brands they might fail within few months. Belkin has 2 years of warranty and its very good brand.
