Bought the HP Envy just before it was launched in India.....so kudos to Flipkart for that little coup. Whats Cool a)Thickness The first thing you notice about the laptop, is that is extremely sleek....When they call their lower end version a Sleekbook, they are not far off. The weight is all its touted to be....you could hold this laptop in one hand for hours without straining yourself... Some other nice features are the clip that is provided to enable the ethernet port to be recessed (very nice touch) b) Design Used to have a HP laptop before and boy this sure surpasses all expectations. From the chiclet keyboard...to the lights for the CAPS key/Wireless button....to the blood red matte finish on the bottom....the rounded finish of the screen......the machined finish to the top……this is a classy product c) Battery Life Was very skeptical about battery. After one week of usage I can say confidently that what HP is touting as its actual battery life of 9 hours.....would be impossible to achieve....performing tasks that us regular folks do.... BUT.... Surf the net, play music and use Office and watch a few clips.....doing all those things you can still extract a minimum of 5.5 hours from the battery. Which is still wonderful. If you really pare down on all activities it does touch 8 hours of battery HOWEVER... A lot depends on the power plan. HP Recommended gets you to 6.5-7 hours doing the stuff mentioned above. High Performance, which is required for even basic games like FIFA 12....won't give you more than 90 minutes. d) Audio and Video Beats Audio is clear and vibrant. The sub-woofer makes itself felt. You won't be waking next-door neighbors with these speakers but they are loud enough. The clarity is good. In general performance goes to a new level using headphones but that is nothing new. Video, I am not sure what HP has done with the graphics configuration, it has the ATI-processor and switchable graphics. Plays moderate games like FIFA 12 easily. Something more demanding like Assassin's Creed for example is also doable. CONS a) No Backlit keyboard A backlit keyboard with these chiclet keys would have been appreciated... however..for 52 big ones....that may be a bit of a stretch b) Fan The fan is adequate in all respects and is efficient in cooling. However, the heating level can touch the warm side especially, I have observed during long charging cycles. c) Windows Home Basic Predictably this is going to cause a lot of people to be turned off. HP should have seen this coming. CONCLUSION It has the looks, it has the feel, it has the juice. It does not have the bare muscle of a desktop replacement but then its not made for that. If you are looking for a lightweight laptop with long battery life that has a moderately fast processor, moderate graphics and good multimedia capabilities…..this is the one for you.
Been a week since i bought this. i will definitely recommend this since Ultrabooks are the new Guys in town and not to forget the performance too. nnPRO's:nThe first best thing i want to mention about this ultrabook is its Switchable Graphics. you can configure your graphics to each and individual applications running.nnBattery life is coming upto 7 and half hours in power saving mode.nnBeats Audio: though the speakers look small it gave a nice output with clear sound with out disturbance. nnGaming is good with the 2GB ATI Graphics.nnCON'S:nnWeight is bit heavy for the looks.nncan be still slim but can not blame since no other make is giving this good configuration at this price. And also this is not using a SSD but a HDDnnWindows 7 Home basic edition with this 54k ultrabook is a big no. (installed Windows 7 ultimate)nnBattery will drain fast if you are using Graphic card in high performance mode.nnnAll together this is a great combination of good config from the hands of HP. you Will get the same configuration at the same price in the normal bulky notebooks. But Guys trust me, ultrabooks are the future of computing. lets upgrade the technology.
