Update (August 2025): The MatePad Pro featured a punch-hole display for the front camera, support for M-Pencil and magnetic keyboard, and ran on the Kirin 990 SoC at launch. It debuted in late 2019 and became one of Huawei’s flagship tablets, competing directly with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S6 series.

Huawei is working a tablet with a punch-hole display, 91mobiles has learnt from a reliable source. This will be the first time the punch-hole design is used on a tablet; the hole-punch will, obviously, house the selfie camera as it does on smartphones. The source also said the tablet is internally being referred to as ‘Marx’, but we can safely say that won’t be the marketing name of the device. The Huawei Marx will support the company’s smart magnetic keyboard and the M-Pen stylus. This means the Marx is likely the successor of the MediaPad M6 and may be called MediaPad M7.
Evan Blass in a tweet said the tablet will be named Huawei MatePad Pro.
The Huawei MediaPad M7 renders show the company has managed to make the bezels around the screen slimmer and has eliminated the fingerprint sensor. This suggests an in-display fingerprint sensor might be used on the tablet. On the back, we can see the pill-shaped camera module will house dual sensors and the LED flash. The camera module will protrude from the back, like the one on the MediaPad M6 10.8. At the bottom, we can see the MediaPad M7 will feature the USB Type-C port, which will be flanked by speaker grilles on either side. Since the magnetic keyboard is present in the renders, we can assume the contact points for the keyboard will be at the same point as the predecessor. Colour options will be Black and White.
The fate of the 3.5mm audio jack on MediaPad M7 is uncertain as it is not present at the bottom edge — on the MediaPad M6, it was present on the left corner, so this positioning makes spotting the 3.5mm audio jack a little more difficult. It also not clear whether the upcoming tablet’s M-Pen will be stored in a silo within the body or placed in a protruding ridge on the body, like the S-Pen of the Samsung Tab S6. The latter seems to be the likelier case as the next-generation M-Pen in the render has a grooved design, which could allow it to held to the tablet via magnetic design and charge wirelessly too.
While we have most of the design details of the upcoming Huawei MediaPad M7, information around its specifications and launch timeline are scarce. Nonetheless, we can expect it will have flagship-class specifications, including the Kirin 990 SoC, up to 8GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, a large battery. It may launch early next year, considering the MediaPad M6 is just 4 months at this point.
