Apple is keeping its hardware launch calendar busy this month. After expanding its smart-home lineup with the HomeView, HomePod Mini 2 and a new Apple TV 4K on October 13th, the company is preparing another product announcement for October 28th. This time, the focus is expected to shift to Macs and iPads, with a touchscreen MacBook Pro and an OLED iPad mini among the rumoured launches.
Apple has teased the upcoming showcase with the tagline ‘Pro and Tell’. The event begins at 10 am Pacific Time (10.30 PM IST), with selected media invited to Los Angeles for hands-on access to the new products. Here’s what to expect.
The MacBook Pro is expected to headline Apple’s October 28th announcements. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could introduce 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED displays, touchscreen support and a Dynamic Island in place of the existing notch. A reinforced hinge could help keep the screen stable during touch interactions, while a lighter design is also expected. The premium models may retain the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, rather than receive a new processor generation alongside the design changes. Touch input is expected to work alongside the keyboard and trackpad.
Apple could also update the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip, replacing the M5 processor in the current model.
Apple may refresh its 24-inch iMac with the M6 chip, with no major exterior changes expected. The update would focus on performance while retaining the all-in-one desktop’s existing design. The iMac could suit users who want a desktop for everyday productivity, creative work and home use without dealing with a separate monitor and computer.
The iPad Mini 8 could also feature prominently at the event. Rumoured upgrades include an OLED display, an A20 Pro chip, a redesigned speaker system to improve water resistance and a front-facing camera repositioned for landscape use. An OLED panel could deliver deeper blacks and better contrast than the LCD screen on the current model. The camera’s new position would also make video calls more convenient when holding the tablet horizontally. However, these changes could increase the price beyond the current iPad Mini’s starting price of USD 599 (Rs 69,900 in India).
Apple hasn’t confirmed the specifications, pricing or availability of the rumoured products. Preorders could begin on October 28th, with sales potentially starting November 6th. The touchscreen models would mark a significant shift for Apple, bringing the MacBook Pro closer to Windows laptops that already offer touch input and OLED displays. However, buyers who primarily use a laptop for typing and trackpad-based navigation may not need to pay extra for touchscreen support. The iPad Mini’s expected display upgrade may appeal to users who want a more premium compact tablet. Buyers considering either product should wait for official prices and specifications before making a decision.
