Apple’s first iPhone Air made a few trade-offs (review) in favour of a slimmer design, but its single rear camera and smaller battery left much room for improvement for subsequent editions. The company could address both with its successor, as a new leak points to a dual camera setup and a larger battery on the iPhone Air 2. Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station has also shared details about its display and processor, suggesting Apple will retain the slim phone’s premium hardware credentials.
iPhone Air 2 specifications (expected)
According to Digital Chat Station, the iPhone Air 2 will feature a 6.55-inch flat OLED display with 1.5K+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel is also tipped to use LTPO technology, similar to the original iPhone Air’s 6.5-inch 120Hz ProMotion display.

The bigger changes could come to the cameras. The original Air had a single 48MP Fusion rear camera, while its successor is tipped to get a 48MP primary camera and a 48MP ultrawide shooter. This would make it a more practical option for photography, particularly for landscape and group shots. The phone is also expected to get a larger battery, reportedly measuring around 3,500mAh or more. The original model had a 3,149mAh battery, making battery life one of its compromises compared to other iPhones. It’s still tiny compared to the capacities other flagships are achieving, even compact for that matter, but it’s an improvement for Apple.
The iPhone Air 2 is also tipped to use Apple’s A20-series chipset, reportedly built on a 2nm process. Other expected upgrades include the N2 wireless chipset and C2 modem. The phone could retain a similar design to its predecessor, with a reported thickness of just 5.2 mm compared to the original’s 5.64 mm.
iPhone Air 2 launch timeline and expected price
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone Air 2 in spring 2027, alongside the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. One report suggests it could be the only ultra-thin flagship smartphone released that year, giving Apple a relatively clear run in this niche. The original iPhone Air launched in India at Rs 1,19,900, with the slim 5.64 mm titanium design and A19 Pro chipset as its main selling points. However, buyers had to accept a single rear camera and a 3,149mAh battery at that price. The second generation could address both shortcomings, but the addition of another camera, a larger battery and a newer chipset could also push the price higher. Rising memory costs may add to that pressure.
Apple hasn’t revealed any details about the phone yet. Those considering the original iPhone Air should keep that in mind if camera flexibility and battery life are priorities. It may be worth waiting for the successor’s official specifications and pricing before spending over Rs 1 lakh on the current model.
