Infinix GT 20 Pro vs POCO X6 Pro: Which is the best gaming smartphone?

Over the past few years, the landscape of gaming phones has evolved at a rapid speed. Amidst this, Infinix has been one OEM that has not just kept up with the pace but also delivered novel and highly innovative attributes that have served gamers in unique ways. The latest in its string of impressive phones is the GT 20 Pro, a powerhouse that’s set to deliver a robust gaming experience to buyers. By the looks of it, every aspect of this device has been designed to elevate its gaming prowess, which begs the question – how well does it perform against its major rival, the POCO X6 Pro? We’re here to answer this specific question, so let’s get going with it.

Design – Gaming-centric or safe choice?

The appearance of the GT 20 Pro is all about its Cyber Mecha Design. Clearly, Infinix seems to have understood what gamers want. It’s not just the uniquely arranged LED lights but also the crazy mecha aesthetic that attracts you toward this Infinix device. The metal-like rear surface evokes toughness, no matter which one of the three available colours you choose. There’s Mecha Blue, which offers a frosty cool look and there’s Mecha Orange for a feisty warm tone. And for those who love neutral tones, there’s the Mecha Silver option.

Owners of the Infinix GT 20 Pro will be able to customise the Mecha Loop LED Lightings in eight colour combinations as well as four different lighting effects. On the other hand, the POCO X6 Pro comes with a vegan leather back cover that can be dressed in colours like black, silver and yellow. As is evident, the Infinix GT 20 Pro gives us a lot to talk about when it comes to its design. It’s edgy, futuristic, and everything you’d want your gaming phone to be.

Display – Higher refresh rate the better!

Having a good display is crucial for a gaming phone to succeed, given how visuals can make or break the appeal of a game. The Infinix GT 20 has gone for a large 6.78-inch AMOLED screen. Its 10-bit nature allows it to render a massive array of colours that breathe new life into whatever content is being viewed on it. Moreover, this display bears a 144Hz refresh rate, which makes for smoother motion and higher framerates. This increased refresh rate can even make the gaming experience feel more responsive, which can be crucial in competitive online matches.

On the other hand, the POCO X6 Pro features a smaller display with a lower 120Hz refresh rate. It’s still an AMOLED panel so you can expect admirable visuals from it. That said, when it comes to choosing between the two, the Infinix GT 20 Pro is a clear winner in the display department on account of its high refresh rate.

Gaming Performance – Which phone has a distinct advantage?

Nothing is more irritating to gamers than dropped framerates and sudden performance hiccups. That’s why, strong hardware is always expected to make its way into them. The Infinix GT 20 Pro adopts the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset that boasts a clock speed of 3.1GHz. This flagship chip promises buttery-smooth gaming experiences in the most demanding of games. It’s hence no surprise that it manages to pull up a score of more than 9,50,000 on AnTuTu. Additionally, it happens to be India’s first phone to bear the Dimensity 8200 Ultimate SoC but that’s not the only unique factor of its internal setup.

The GT 20 Pro comes equipped with a dedicated gaming display chip by Pixelworks. Meant to take the visual experience to the next level, this chip employs MEMC and visual enhancement technologies to boost the frame rates of games to as high as 90fps (At a global scale, it’s purported to achieve up to 120 FPS in popular mobile games such as PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, etc.). This means you can get even higher framerates that the developers intend their games to have. This should lead to extreme fluidity and added smoothness of the visuals, which will do wonders for the immersion levels of your favourite games and who knows, may also give you a slight advantage in online matches. And since all this is happening with the help of a dedicated chip, power consumption levels are extremely low.

With the Dual Chip framework (MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate and Pixelworks chipsets) users have access to a special E-Sports X-Boost mode that gives a further boost to the performance when playing demanding games.  On the other hand, the POCO X6 Pro also has a flagship MediaTek chipset at its heart in the form of the 4nm Dimensity 8300 Ultra. With a clock speed of 3.35GHz, its CPU power exceeds that of the Infinix device and so does its AnTuTu score, which is upwards of 1,464,000. This does mean that the POCO phone has slightly higher power at its disposal but when running high-end games, the difference will be virtually unnoticeable.

So, while the POCO X6 Pro comes with a slightly better CPU, any pure gamer will tell you that the presence of the segment-first Pixelworks chip inside the Infinix GT 20 Pro adds huge value to its proposition. The boosted framerates add an overall visual flair that’s not possible on other devices, no matter how strong their chipsets are.

Software and security – Go for the smarter choice

The Infinix GT 20 Pro’s excellent design is courtesy of the use of sturdy materials that protect it from small drops and scrapes. Moreover, the device also features an IP54 rating that gives it high levels of protection against dust particles and a fair amount of protection against water, increasing its durability further. As for its software, the handset comes with a clean Android experience, tailored exclusively for the GT 20 Pro. The smartphone runs the latest XOS 14 skin that’s based on Android 14. With the excustom version of Android that’s devoid of unnecessary knick-knacks and bloatware apps that more often than not, end up ruining the overall user experience.

On the other hand, the POCO X6 Pro is home to Xiaomi’s HyperOS software that’s known to be a slightly heavy Android skin. Like the GT 20 Pro, this device also delivers an in-display fingerprint sensor for security, and it even offers the same IP54 rating for durability. And while the Infinix handset promises two years of OS updates and 36 months of security patches, the POCO phone grants users three years of OS updates and four years of security patches. As you can see, things are pretty level in the durability and security departments but if you want a clean and clutter-free software experience, you will have to go for the Infinix GT 20.

Camera – Capable hardware is the key

Photography might not be something all gamers focus on but Infinix has still gone all out in the camera department. It has equipped the GT 20 Pro with a 108MP OIS triple camera setup. You can expect highly detailed and accurately coloured shots every time you fire up this phone’s camera. Moreover, the presence of macro and depth sensors adds to the versatility that’s on offer here. The OIS guarantees shake-free 4K videos, while the Super Night Mode ensures that low-light shots feature glaring clarity. There’s even a Dual Video mode for vloggers to take advantage of. As for selfies, they come out looking crisp and glamorous thanks to the presence of a 32MP front camera.

POCO X6 Pro, on the other hand, is home to a 64MP main sensor that’s flanked by ultra-wide and macro sensors. You can expect clear images from this phone during day-time but night-time shots suffer due to the absence of a strong night mode. Selfies on the X6 Pro are handled by a 16MP front camera, which only offers half the resolution as that of the Infinix phone’s selfie snapper. As we said, photography isn’t a major factor for gamers when deciding upon buying a new phone but Infinix has still done enough to steer the snap-happy customers towards it.

Other highlights

Both these devices ship with 5,000mAh batteries inside them, which makes them ideal for indulging in extremely long hours of gaming. But there’s one feature onboard the Infinix phone that lets you keep playing without worrying about the battery life at all. It’s called Bypass Charging. When the phone is connected to the charging cable, Bypass Charging directly powers your gaming instead of charging the battery, thus bringing additional stability to the performance, apart from lowering the overall temperature.

Unfortunately, the POCO X6 Pro doesn’t ship with the Bypass Charging feature, which is a big loss for those who wish to buy the phone. It does come with 67W charging compared to the 45W charging of the Infinix phone, but that’s clearly not a huge advantage to have. Moving on, both phones offer great sound via their dual stereo speakers. However, the speakers of the Infinix GT 20 Pro offer JBL-tuned audio, which should definitely add thump to the sounds coming out of the device, whether you’re gaming or consuming content.

Conclusion

The Infinix GT 20 is the clear winner in this comparison. It gives gamers everything that they expect a gaming phone to offer. Its Cyber Mecha Design is an absolute treat to the eyes and clearly distinguishes it from not just the POCO X6 Pro but even all the other gaming phones out there. While on paper POCO X6 Pro has a slight edge in the processor but in reality, Infinix GT 20 Pro is at par in terms of overall performance and even has a slight edge in terms of gaming. A high refresh rate display, cutting-edge cameras, and like Bypass Charging further make the GT 20 Pro a far better option than the POCO X6 Pro.
