Infinix has announced the launch of a new budget smartphone in India, the Infinix Smart 20. The company has officially confirmed that the handset will debut on June 8th at 12 pm, with sales scheduled through Flipkart shortly after launch. Ahead of its unveiling, a dedicated microsite has revealed most of the phone’s key specifications, positioning the Smart 20 as a notable upgrade over last year’s Infinix Smart 10.
The Infinix Smart 20 will feature a 6.78-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which is larger than the 6.67-inch panel found on the Smart 10. The 120Hz panel on a large display would help in delivering a smooth scrolling experience and for gaming as well.
Powering the device is the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultimate chipset paired with 4GB RAM. Although the company has not detailed performance benchmarks, the processor should offer a meaningful step up from the Unisoc T7250 chipset used in the Smart 10. For users upgrading from older entry-level smartphones, this could translate into smoother multitasking and better gaming performance in casual titles.
The smartphone packs a 5,200mAh battery with support for 15W charging and 5W reverse wired charging. Infinix claims up to 39 days of standby time, although real-world results will naturally vary depending on usage patterns. The battery capacity seems modest, though, as even budget smartphones now offer up to 7,000mAh.
The Infinix Smart 20 is also getting an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance. It will come with the Ultra Link feature, which allows compatible Infinix phones to communicate wirelessly over distances of up to one kilometre. In terms of design, the Infinix Smart 20 features a textured finish and houses a rectangular camera module with dual rear cameras and an LED flash. The phone will be offered in four colour options: Cloudline Blue, Polaris Titanium, Shadow Black, and Sunlike Orange. The handset measures just 7.7mm in thickness, which should make it easy to hold and use.
While pricing has not yet been announced, the Infinix Smart 10 debuted at Rs 6,799, suggesting that the Smart 20 could remain within the sub-Rs 8,000 bracket. But with the ongoing price hikes in the smartphone industry, we could see the Infinix Smart 20 launch at a higher price than expected. If Infinix manages to keep pricing aggressive, the Smart 20 could appeal to first-time smartphone buyers and students. That said, buyers should wait for details about the camera hardware, software support policy, and final pricing before making a decision.
