iPhone 17e launched in India with A19 chipset, MagSafe support, and 48MP camera: price, specifications
Apple has expanded its flagship lineup with the launch of the iPhone 17e, positioning it as the most affordable entry into the iPhone 17 family. The new model brings several upgrades over its predecessor, the iPhone 16e, including the latest A19 chipset, a 48MP Fusion camera, improved durability, MagSafe support, and double the starting storage at 256GB.
The iPhone 17e will be available for pre-order starting March 4th at 7:45 PM, with sales beginning March 11th. Pricing starts at Rs 64,900 and the iPhone will be available in Soft Pink, White, and Black colour options.

A19 chip and C1X modem
At the core of the iPhone 17e is Apple’s new A19 chip (the 16e packed the A18 chip), built on a 3nm process. The 6-core CPU is claimed to be up to 2x faster than the iPhone 11, while the 4-core GPU supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing for improved gaming visuals. Apple has also included a 16-core Neural Engine designed to handle Apple Intelligence features more efficiently.

The phone also introduces the C1X cellular modem, Apple’s latest in-house modem, which is said to be up to 2x faster than the C1 found in the iPhone 16e, while consuming less power.
The iPhone 17e features a 48MP Fusion primary camera that enables what Apple calls “optical-quality” 2x zoom through in-sensor cropping. Users can shoot at 24MP by default for balanced detail and file size, or capture full 48MP images for higher-resolution output.
Portrait mode has been upgraded with improved depth processing, allowing users to adjust focus after capture. The camera also supports 4K video recording with Dolby Vision at up to 60fps, along with Spatial Audio recording and wind noise reduction.
6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with Ceramic Shield 2
The iPhone 17e sports a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with up to 1200 nits peak HDR brightness. It features Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims offers three times better scratch resistance compared to the previous generation, along with improved anti-reflective properties.
The device retains Face ID for biometric authentication and includes the Action button for quick access to shortcuts like the flashlight or visual intelligence tools.
The iPhone 17e sticks with the same notch design as its predecessor, which might disappoint some who believed the rumours that the phone will get the Dynamic Island like the newer flagship iPhones.
MagSafe returns, faster charging
One of the key additions this year is MagSafe, allowing users to attach compatible chargers, wallets, and cases. The iPhone 17e supports Qi2 and MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W, compared to 7.5W on its predecessor.
With wired USB-C charging, Apple says the device can reach up to 50 percent charge in around 30 minutes. The phone also promises all-day battery life, aided by power efficiencies from the A19 chip and C1X modem.
Satellite features and safety tools
Like the rest of the iPhone 17 series, the iPhone 17e includes satellite-based features such as Emergency SOS, Messages via satellite, Roadside Assistance, and Find My location sharing when outside cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
Crash Detection is also present, capable of automatically contacting emergency services in the event of a severe accident.
iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence
The iPhone 17e ships with iOS 26, which introduces a redesigned interface and deeper Apple Intelligence integration. Features include Live Translation across Messages, FaceTime, and Phone; on-screen visual intelligence search; Call Screening; Hold Assist; and improved message filtering.
Colours, availability, price
The iPhone 17e will be available in Black, White, and a new Soft Pink finish with a matte texture. The base variant now starts at 256GB storage for Rs 64,900. The 512GB variant is priced at Rs 84,900. The iPhone 17e will be on sale from March 11th.
Apple’s “affordable” iPhone starts at a higher price compared to its predecessor, likely due to the ongoing memory chip shortage. To recall, the iPhone 16e was launched last year at Rs 59,900. However, it’s important to note that the iPhone 16e’s base mode offered 128GB storage, whereas the 17e starts with 256GB.
