iPhone 18 Pro display leak hints at taller design, possible 7-inch Pro Max screen

Highlights
  • Alleged leaked screen protectors suggest the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature taller and slightly narrower displays.
  • The leaks also point to a smaller Dynamic Island cutout, in line with earlier rumours of Apple reducing its size.
  • Display sizes may increase to around 6.4 inches on the iPhone 18 Pro and 7 inches on the Pro Max.

Apple may be preparing one of the bigger design shifts to the iPhone’s front layout in recent years. Leaked protective films for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max suggest the company could move to taller and slightly narrower displays, while also shrinking the size of the Dynamic Island cutout.

The leaked screen protectors, shared ahead of Apple’s expected September launch window, show a noticeably smaller front camera opening placed slightly off-centre. That lines up with earlier rumours claiming Apple is working on reducing the size of the Dynamic Island by around 25 to 35 percent.

iPhone 18 Pro display sizes could increase

The leaked protectors (via) appear taller than those used for the current iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models. That has led to speculation that Apple could increase display sizes to around 6.4 inches on the iPhone 18 Pro and as much as 7 inches on the Pro Max variant. For comparison, the current iPhone 17 Pro uses a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch panel.

A shift to taller displays would be notable because Apple has kept the overall front design of the Pro iPhones relatively consistent for several generations now. The change could allow Apple to increase screen size without making the phones dramatically wider in the hand. Several Android brands already use taller aspect ratios to make large displays feel slightly easier to grip and use one-handed.

Smaller Dynamic Island also expected

The smaller camera cutout shown in the leaked protective films also points toward Apple continuing its gradual push toward a cleaner front design. Apple introduced the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro lineup, and while the feature added more software functionality around notifications and background tasks, it still occupies a noticeable portion of the display during video playback and gaming. Reducing its size would free up more usable screen space without requiring Apple to move entirely to under-display camera hardware yet.

However, accessory leaks should be treated cautiously because dimensions can change before production units are finalised. Users who watch a lot of video, multitask frequently or prefer larger displays without overly wide phones could benefit most if the leaks turn out to be accurate. Buyers planning to upgrade may want to wait for Apple’s September announcement to see how iPhones evolve this year.
