Vivo is taking a battery pitch this time with its V-series. The company has confirmed that the Vivo V80 Lite will launch in Malaysia on September 3rd and will pack a 10,000mAh battery, making it the company’s first globally launched smartphone with a battery of this capacity.

The phone had appeared earlier on an Indian retailer’s Instagram page, suggesting an India launch could also be close. However, the design shown by Vivo Malaysia differs from that earlier teaser, leaving some questions around how the Indian model will look.

Vivo V80 Lite design and battery revealed

The Malaysian version of the Vivo V80 Lite 5G will feature a flat frame and flat rear panel, with black, green and pink colour options. A square camera module houses a 50MP primary sensor. The 10,000mAh battery is the biggest talking point. While this is not Vivo’s first phone with a 10,000mAh cell as that distinction belongs to the Vivo Y600 Pro launched in China, the V80 Lite is the first globally launched model to reach this capacity.

The move comes as battery capacity is becoming an increasingly common differentiator in the mid-range segment with the advent of cheap Si-C technology. As OEMs cut corners across more expensive components like storage and performance, battery seems a feasible area to compensate with. Realme and Honor have already introduced phones globally with 10,000mAh batteries and Redmi is catching up with the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max later this month.

There were indications earlier that Vivo could be reusing hardware from the Vivo S2 for some markets. The V80 Lite has appeared under several model numbers across certification databases, with the V2576 particularly interesting because it’s also associated with the S2. If the connection holds, the V80 Lite could feature a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, along with a 50MP Sony IMX852 main camera, 8MP ultrawide and 32MP selfie camera. Aura Light, stereo speakers, in-display fingerprint recognition and IP68/IP69 protection are also tipped.

There is still uncertainty around the chipset and charging. Reports have pointed to both the Dimensity 7360 Turbo and Dimensity 7300e, while certifications have suggested 44W charging rather than the previously rumoured 90W.

The V80 Lite could be worth waiting for if long battery life, an AMOLED display and design are priorities. A 10,000mAh battery could give the V80 Lite a clear advantage on paper, although the phone’s weight, thickness and charging speed will determine how useful that capacity is in everyday use.
