Q2 2025, continues to be an exciting year for those planning to buy a new laptop. For starters, RTX 50-series laptops finally made their way to India, giving gamers something to drool over, and their wallets something to fear. But that’s generally always been the case, so it’s not really that surprising. We also reviewed a couple of budget laptops from the likes of HP to make up for it. Meanwhile, the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 rounded things out.

Things were just as exciting on the non-gaming side of things. Motorola entered the laptop market with the Moto Book 60, which offers impressive value. Speaking of value, there was the new ASUS Vivobook 16 powered by the Snapdragon X processor. Meanwhile, the Acer Swift Neo promises premium design and features at a more affordable price tag. In global markets, the Omen Max 16 can be configured with an OLED display, an even more powerful RTX 5090 GPU, 2TB storage, or 64GB of RAM — all of which add a layer of flexibility that Indian buyers currently don’t get. Then again, at ₹3.1 lakhs, even this base model is an expensive proposition, putting it well beyond reach for most mainstream buyers.

So, for the few who can afford it, is it worth it? If raw power is your top priority, then absolutely. The HP Omen Max 16 is easily one of the most capable gaming laptops of 2025. It brings together cutting-edge performance, a vibrant high-refresh display, premium build quality, and thoughtful software features into a single, no-nonsense package. ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2025)

Verdict

Priced at Rs. 3,79,990, the Asus ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2025) is every bit the performance powerhouse it promises to be. With an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX and RTX 5080 GPU under the hood, it delivers near desktop-level performance in a portable (albeit heavy) package. The Mini LED display is stunning, the keyboard is a joy to use, and the overall thermal and build design is rock solid.

That said, it’s not perfect. The use of a Gen4 SSD at this price point feels like a missed opportunity, especially when the competition offers faster Gen5 storage. Battery life is limited, fan profiling could be slightly tweaked, and NVIDIA’s Optimus tech could use some more work. However, those on a tighter budget might want to consider the Lenovo LOQ 15AHP9, which offers similar specs but with a 1080p screen and a lower-TGP GPU, making it more affordable, albeit slightly less capable. Alternatively, you can also check out the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA507UV. It has the same CPU and 140W RTX 4060 GPU but does come with a lower resolution FHD display, with an even lower brightness of just 250 nits. Put everything into perspective, the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 is pretty well-priced and is a great option when you factor in a bank offer.

The HP Victus 15 is a well-balanced gaming laptop that delivers solid 1080p performance without breaking the bank.

With a high-refresh-rate display, a capable Ryzen 5 5600H processor, and the RTX 3050, it handles both competitive esports and demanding AAA titles reasonably well. Day-to-day tasks feel snappy, and its keyboard, build quality, and port selection add to its overall usability.

However, it isn’t without flaws—the display’s colour accuracy leaves a bit to be desired, battery life is average, and speakers lack depth, making headphones a must for an immersive experience. Thermals are manageable, though the laptop runs hot under sustained workloads, and ray tracing is mostly impractical on this GPU.

Despite these trade-offs, the Victus 15 remains one of the best value-for-money gaming laptops, offering reliable performance, fast charging, and a smooth gaming experience for budget-conscious gamers. If you can live with its limitations, it’s a strong contender in its price range.

All things considered, the HP Victus 15-fa1412TX stands out as a dependable all-rounder for around Rs. 70,000. It delivers genuine gaming performance in a design that’s both wallet-friendly and office-appropriate. Whether it’s for casual to mid-level gaming, academic tasks, or everyday productivity, this laptop comfortably juggles it all, from Chrome tabs and spreadsheets to Valorant and Cyberpunk.

That said, it’s not the absolute best gaming performer in this price range. If raw performance is the top priority, the Colorful P15 still takes the lead. It packs the same i5-12450H processor but upgrades the GPU to an RTX 4050 with 6GB VRAM, giving it an edge in more demanding titles. Plus, it includes an additional M.2 slot, which allows for easy storage upgrades without sacrificing the bundled SSD.

Still, the Victus makes a compelling case thanks to HP’s solid reputation, long-term reliability, and better after-sales support, which are factors that matter just as much to many buyers. So if performance is important but peace of mind matters too, this Victus strikes a fine balance.

Moto Book 60

Verdict

At Rs 66,990, the Moto Book 60 isn’t trying to outmuscle gaming rigs or high-performance ultrabooks. However, this is not what it was built for. Instead, Motorola delivers a stylish, well-rounded laptop that nails the essentials and punches above its weight in key areas like the OLED display, premium build, and upgradability.

The Intel Core 5 210H doesn’t offer impressive benchmark performance, but it’s more than up to the task for everyday productivity, media consumption, and casual creative work. The 2.8K 120Hz OLED screen alone is something you don’t usually see at this price, and it genuinely elevates the user experience.

While it isn’t perfect with its underwhelming speakers and poor gaming performance, it is a great option if you’re a student or office worker looking for a lightweight laptop that looks good, feels premium, and has decent performance.
