Meta introduces Muse Image for AI image generation across Instagram Stories and WhatsApp
AI-generated images have become a major part of the internet, and their rise shows no signs of slowing down. Meta has now introduced Muse Image, its first image-generation model from Meta Superintelligence Labs. Since the model is part of Meta AI, it is built directly into Meta’s apps, including Instagram. Muse Image is built into Meta AI, and it works by creating new images or reimagining existing ones. For example, you can ask it to create an image of you in front of a historical landmark, remove a photobomber, or even ask it to build a functional QR code. Meta says that Muse Image can render text cleanly inside your visuals, such as a how-to guide or a detailed infographic.
There are advantages here for Meta, considering it has one of the most used social media platforms in the world. For example, you can ask Meta AI to redesign your room with real products from the web or Facebook Marketplace. So if there’s a specific piece of furniture you want in your room, Meta AI will pull that product and place it in the design.

Editing should also be easy with Meta AI, as it’s said to remember the full context of your conversation. You can swap styles, add elements, or tweak details in a flow without starting from scratch. Meta AI has also added a presets panel with suggested prompts, if you’re not sure about where to start.
Meta AI image generation on Instagram
If you’re using Meta AI on Instagram, you can now @mention accounts to bring particular profiles right into your images. Once you tag someone, Meta AI will pull publicly available photos and use them in the customised image. This is only for public accounts, which you can still control over who gets to use them in Meta AI. There are also over 30 new AI-powered effects for Instagram Stories, which you can access by selecting the ‘Restyle’ option. You can also now generate images in your direct chats with Meta AI on WhatsApp.
Muse Image is available to use across the Meta AI app and on meta.ai, but Instagram Stories is limited to the US. The company plans to expand it to more locations globally. While the feature is free, there are more options available through Meta’s subscription plans. If you’re planning to use Meta AI for image generation, the free features should be enough, but if you want more out of it then you can consider getting the subscription.
