Moto Edge 40 Neo vs iQOO Z7 Pro performance comparison: Which is better under Rs 25,000?

The Moto Edge 40 Neo has made its debut in India as the world’s first smartphone equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7030 SoC. Along with that, the phone comes with several compelling features such as a 144Hz refresh rate pOLED display, IP68 water and dust resistance rating, and a 5,000mAh battery. The handset has been priced in India starting at Rs 23,999.

Is it the most powerful smartphone within the segment? To assess that we decided to pit the Moto Edge 40 Neo against one of the most formidable contenders in its segment, the iQOO Z7 Pro (review). Before we get into the performance comparison between the Moto Edge 40 Neo and the iQOO Z7 Pro, let’s review the key SoC specifications of both smartphones:

Geekbench v6

Geekbench, which measures the speed at which a device can complete a specific task, rates both smartphones very closely. To provide some context, the Moto Edge 40 Neo scores 1,048 and 2,548 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, while the iQOO Z7 Pro achieves scores of 1,181 and 2,682 points in similar tests. Not by a huge margin, but iQOO seems to be faster than the Motorola smartphone in terms of completing tasks.

AnTuTu v10

On AnTuTu, the iQOO Z7 Pro leaves the Moto Edge 40 Neo far behind in terms of performance. This is mainly due to the lack of a GPU score for the Motorola smartphone. For some reason, AnTuTu would just not measure the GPU performance of the Edge 40 Neo, resulting in a low score of 4,40,956. Conversely, the iQOO Z7 Pro achieved an impressive score of 7,13,965.

CPU Throttle

In the CPU Throttle test, the Moto Edge 40 Neo sustains 70 percent of its peak performance while running 50 threads for half an hour. In contrast, the iQOO Z7 Pro sustains 93 percent of its peak performance. This gives the iQOO smartphone an advantage over its counterpart in terms of better performance under sustained load.

Gaming

In my gaming tests, I put the Moto Edge 40 Neo and the iQOO Z7 Pro to the test with Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). I ran the game on both devices with ‘HDR’ graphics and a ‘High’ frame rate setting. While I found the game to be playable on both devices, it was the iQOO Z7 Pro that provided a superior gaming experience. This was largely thanks to its substantial vapour chamber cooling system, which allowed the handset to stay cool even after half an hour of intense gaming. In contrast, the Moto Edge 40 Neo experienced a bit of heating and occasional stutters in performance.

Verdict

The Moto Edge 40 Neo and iQOO Z7 Pro are both strong contenders in their segment, featuring MediaTek Dimensity chipsets. While the Moto Edge 40 Neo offers respectable performance, it falls slightly behind the iQOO Z7 Pro in benchmark scores and sustained load capabilities. Moreover, the iQOO Z7 Pro’s superior gaming experience, thanks to its efficient cooling system, sets it apart for gamers.

Both devices have their strengths, but the decision to buy one over the other depends on your personal priorities and usage patterns. If you are a gamer or a heavy user, then the iQOO Z7 Pro should be the obvious choice. The Moto Edge 40 Neo should do just fine if you are a regular user when it comes to performance.
