Moto G64 vs Realme P1 camera comparison: a close fight

The Moto G64 and Realme P1 are now official in India, and both are priced at around Rs 15,000. The two smartphones focus on performance and feature minimalistic designs, making them more appealing to a mass audience, whether young or old. In terms of cameras, the Moto G64 and Realme P1 have two sensors on the back, plus a 16MP front camera on each.

How do the cameras perform? Here’s a detailed camera comparison of Moto G64 and Realme P1, using pictures shot in different scenarios and lighting conditions.

Daylight (HDR)

The Moto G64 typically includes a warm hue in most of its photos. Shadows and contrast are also on the high side, making the scene appear more dramatic. The Realme P1, on the other hand, offers a better dynamic range and balanced colours.

In the photos above, you will also notice that Realme P1 offers more field of view. The bushes in the foreground and trees in the background include fewer shadows. However, the Moto G64 accurately detected the colour of the sky. Its camera even captured better details, as we noticed after zooming in.

Winner: Moto G64

Portrait

The Realme P1 lacks an ultra-wide camera; therefore, we are directly jumping on the portrait mode.

Both smartphones utilise the primary camera for the portrait mode. The Realme P1 can offer some extra depth, though its edge detection is inconsistent. The Realme P1 also struggled to detect the skin tone accurately. Notably, it captured more details, whether on the face or shirt.

The Moto G64 maintained a balanced approach with shadows and colours. Its edge detection is a lot better. As a result, its image is close to real life.

Selfies

In contrast, the Realme P1 performed relatively better for selfies with portrait mode. Not only does the phone offer more field of view, but it also captures more details on the face and surroundings (in this case, the green shirt).

The Moto G64 again added a warm hue, making the face appear reddish. If you zoom in, you will notice a strange oil-painting effect around the face, likely to reduce noise levels.

Winner: Realme P1

Low light

Both smartphones struggle in low light, and their photos look average at best. You will notice high noise levels and washed-out colours in most. To be also fair, smartphones under Rs 30,000 struggle to perform reliably in low-light conditions.

Objectively, the Realme P1 performs better in this case as the phone manages surrounding lights efficiently. On the other hand, the Moto G64 excels at capturing details in areas where light falls, such as the tiles on buildings or text on billboards.

My pick is Realme P1 for managing ambient light better. If your pick is Moto G4, that’s also fine.

Winner: Realme P1

Night Mode

Both smartphones perform more or less the same way, even with night mode enabled. However, this time, the Moto G64 handles ambient light more efficiently than the Realme P1. Even details are sharper in the image from the Moto G64.

The night shot captured by Realme P1 may appear vibrant, though details are sketchy.

Winner: Moto G64

Verdict

In our camera comparison, the Moto G64 emerged as the winner as the smartphone can capture more details in both bright and low lighting conditions. Its photos also look more dramatic due to prominent shadows and contrast. In other words, the photos by Moto G64 are more social media-ready.

Personally, I equally like photos taken with the Realme P1 as its cameras offer a better dynamic range. This results in a more balanced portrayal of both the subject in the foreground and the area in the background. Additionally, its primary camera offers a better field of view.

Some other points you must consider include:

  • The Realme P1 is a relatively better choice for videos as the smartphone is capable of recording more stable footage. It also supports 4K recording.
  • The Moto G64 includes an 8MP ultra-wide camera that doubles as a macro camera. The performance is average, yet an ultra-wide camera adds versatility.
