Motorola Edge 50 Fusion vs Nothing Phone (2a) battery comparison: which phone offers better battery life?

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion (review) and Nothing Phone (2a) (review) compete quite closely, starting at Rs 22,999 and Rs 23,999, respectively. In order to find out which smartphone offers better value for its price, we conducted a performance comparison between both phones last week. Now, let’s do a battery comparison between the two to find out which device delivers a superior battery life.

PCMark test

The first test on our list is the PCMark battery life benchmark test. It registers the time it takes for a smartphone’s battery to drop to under 20 percent from 100 percent capacity at 80 percent brightness level and 50 volume level. 

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion lasted all of 9 hours and 53 minutes, while the Nothing Phone (2a) registered a substantially better battery life of 14 hours 13 minutes. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion’s battery life is towards the lower end of its price segment. The result implies that the Nothing Phone (2a) should offer better battery life and screen-on time. 

Winner: Nothing Phone (2a) 

Video streaming

For the streaming test, we played the same YouTube video on both devices at 50 percent brightness and volume level for 30 minutes each. At the end of the test, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion registered a battery drop of 4 percent, while the Nothing Phone (2a) registered a battery drop of 3 percent. The Nothing Phone (2a) once again wins the comparison with a slight edge. 

Winner: Nothing Phone (2a) 

Gaming test

For the game test, we played three graphically demanding games, including BGMI, COD: Mobile and Real Racing 3 on both phones for 30 minutes for each game. At the end of the test, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion showcased a total battery drop of 26 percent (8.5 percent average drain), while the Nothing Phone (2a) dropped a total of 22 percent (7.5 percent average drain). The Nothing Phone (2a) also wins the gaming test. 

Winner: Nothing Phone (2a) 

Charging speed

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion comes with 68W fast charging support, compared to 45W fast charging support on the Nothing Phone (2a). With the ‘Charge boost’ option enabled, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion takes 36 minutes to recharge completely from 20 percent to 100 percent. The device takes 54 minutes to recharge from 20 to 100 percent with the feature disabled.  The Nothing Phone (2a) does not come with a similar feature and takes around 56 minutes to recharge completely from 20 percent to 100 percent. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion wins when it comes to charging speed.  

Winner: Motorola Edge 50 Fusion 

Verdict

The Nothing Phone (2a) wins against the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion when it comes to overall battery life. The smartphone offers a more resilient battery than the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion. If the battery life of a smartphone is a significant priority for you, the Nothing Phone (2a) is the better choice. That said, the Motorola phone takes the win in our charging test.

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion’s battery, while not as potent as the Nothing Phone (2a), is good enough to use daily for an average user. With the paired fast charging support, it takes a bit over 30 minutes to recharge the device, which comes in handy when you’re in a hurry.
